Mr. Royston has more than 35 years of forensic engineering experience specializing in the analysis of structural, architectural, and construction failures and performance problems. As founder and president of Western Engineering & Research Corporation, he leads a multidisciplinary team of professionals and investigators, providing a broad range of services to our clients. Mr. Royston’s professional success is based on developing a sound understanding of each project based on systematic site investigations and testing, presentation of findings in detailed, understandable reports, and solid, fact‐based testimony at deposition and trial. Mr. Royston has been qualified as an expert in numerous courts of law throughout the United States, and has served
in the roles of arbitrator, umpire, and mediator.
CONSTRUCTION FAILURE, PERSONAL INJURY & ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION
As president of Western Engineering, Mr. Royston provides leadership and oversight of all electrical, mechanical, plumbing, civil, structural and metallurgical engineering services. He has extensive experience with building codes, OSHA regulations, and ADA standards, which he applies to evaluations of buildings and structures relative to performance problems, claims, injury accidents, and failures. Mr. Royston specializes in the analysis of structural, architectural, and construction failures and performance problems. He is experienced with evaluating construction quality and conformance with contract documents and building codes. Mr. Royston has evaluated damage to numerous fire and explosion‐damaged concrete, masonry, timber and steel structures.
Mr. Royston conducts engineering investigations of construction accidents and various types of personal injury accidents. Mr. Royston has designed and conducted laboratory and field tests on structures, mechanical systems, building components, and materials throughout the United States and Canada. Since forming the Plumbing Failure Analysis Team in 1992, Mr. Royston has been actively involved with failure analysis of plumbing system components.

Mr. Royston is designated a Diplomat Forensic Engineer by the Council of Engineering & Scientific Specialty Boards. Mr. Royston was appointed by the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors to the Forensic Engineering Task Force. He has served on the Colorado Society for Natural Hazards Research (President). He has retired or past memberships with International Conference of Building Officials, American National Standards Institute (Corporate Representative), American Institute of Steel Construction, Applied Technology Council, ASTM International, Engineered Wood Association, National Institute of Building Sciences, Society for Experimental Stress Analysis (Society for Experimental Mechanics), American Iron and Steel Institute, and Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES). He has served on various Civic and Non‐Profit Boards and Committees.
